Dr De Wet gained his Medical Degree in South Africa (MBBCh) in 1995, Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) in 2000 and has been an accredited and awarded NHS Consultant Psychiatist since 2004.

Career
He has clinical experience of working with anxiety disorders and addictions at the Centre for Anxiety Disorders & Trauma and the National Addiction Centre at the Maudsley Hospital, as well at the National Psychosis Unit at the Bethlem Royal Hospital. Dr De Wet currently work in NHS, Clouds House (Action on Addiction) and at the Nuffield Hospital, Bournemouth.

Academically, he completed a Masters Degree (MSc) in research at the Institute of Psychiatry, King's College, London, with a number of research and other publications on anxiety, addiction and drug withdrawal (opiate and benzodiazepine withdrawal treatment) as well as UK mental health & capacity legislation. His current interests are in evidence-based outcomes measures, health informatics, physical health of people with mental health problems, Adult ADHD, psychiatry of chronic illness and paleo-anthropology.

Dr De Wet has acted as a medico-legal expert in a number of criminal and civil cases on mental health and substance misuse problems, post-traumatic stress and stress in the workplace.
